This role develops and retains business based on strong producer relationships for the Middle Market business unit.  The primary accountability of the Renewal Underwriter is to provide renewal quoting production and meet renewal retention goals.  In addition to quoting renewals, the Renewal Underwriter is also responsible for management of new business inspection reviews, inspection actions, new business development and quoting support for assigned offices, and will be expected to spend time in the market with the assigned Underwriter or Relationship Manager.

Essential Duties

  • Accountable for production goals of assigned Tier 2 offices including renewal retention rates, new business submission counts, and cancellation rates.
  • Demonstrates ability to exercise independent judgement, think critically and creatively solve problems.
  • Develops and maintains strong producer relationships. 
  • Educates producers and agency personnel about ICAT’s products and service.
  • Manages new business inspection reviews and follow up actions for assigned offices. 
  • Provides account maintenance with emphasis on complex or time sensitive transactions to ensure best in class service for customers.
  • Seeks creative solutions and delivers on commitments to meet producer needs.
  • Provides support for underwriting and pricing new business accounts for assigned Underwriter.
  • Understands insurance industry and regional market dynamics, competitors and product differences.
  • Supports new business initiatives and production opportunities.
  • Demonstrates understanding of technical underwriting principles, guidelines, forms and risk underwriting characteristics.
  • Understands the functionality of all underwriting systems (automated and manual) and utilizes these systems effectively.
  • Utilizes policy form structure, products and coverage's effectively.
  • Works under the general supervision of the Supervisor, Underwriting Operations and receives direction from assigned underwriter. 

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 3 years experience in progressive underwriting support experience within commercial property and/or personal lines insurance or financial services industries.

License or Designations

  • CPCU, CIC, AU or AINS preferred.


  • BA degree in insurance, business or related field preferred or equivalent work experience.    


  • Strong customer service, critical thinking and business acumen.
