The Summer Internship Program is a unique opportunity to gain valuable knowledge, skills, and work experience in the field of catastrophe underwriting. During your internship, you will be placed in one of the following areas: Product, Claims, or Underwriting Operations. You receive both instructor – led training and work alongside some of the brightest people in the industry. Through hands on training experience designed to expose you to the most important aspects of our business, you will work directly with a project sponsor and your supervisor on a specific project and related assignments. Responsibilities may include (but are not limited too):
o Learning about insurance markets, commercial property insurance, catastrophe insurance products and forms overview (earthquake, wind, hurricane, flood, all other peril), policy lifecycle, risk modeling, systems, and overview of ICAT’s business units.
o Participating in instructor-led training; on-line courses, and shadowing ICAT employees.
o Attendance at account review meetings and other meetings relevant to individual projects will further enhance learning opportunities.
o Project work will focus on business processes such as inspections, losses, and the cost of doing business. Interns will work with the project sponsor to determine scope, resources, and develop timelines for milestones.
o Deliver a final presentation on the project, findings, and recommendations at the conclusion of the internship.
o Underwriting, Claims or Product tasks and assignments will be tailored to intern’s project and career interests, schedule permitting.
What we look for in Intern candidates
o Fully matriculated student with Junior class standing, progressing towards a bachelor’s degree in RMI, Math, Statistics, or other related field
o Minimum GPA of 3.0
o Availability to work June 2018
o Excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
o Superior analytical, mathematical skills and strong work ethic
o Ability to work in a fast paced team environment with rapidly changing priorities and demands
o Microsoft Office proficient and a strong command of Microsoft Excel
o Work is generally scheduled Monday through Friday with some evening, weekend and holiday hours.
