Job Summary

The role of the Senior DB Consultant is to provide a range of support to a team of Senior Consultants and Actuaries. This will involve reviewing complicated actuarial calculations and reports, carrying out complex actuarial calculations and assisting with all aspects of client management.

Main responsibilities and Accountabilities

  • Reviewing complex actuarial calculations and drafting reports on behalf of the Actuaries - these may be include non standard actuarial reports or reports of a non actuarial nature
  • Analyse scheme accounts, investment reports, scheme documentation and company accounts
  • Draft client communications as instructed which should be clear and completed in line with internal and external standards
  • Reviewing accounting assumption setting advice and disclosures under FRS 102, IAS19 and ASC 715.
  • Attend to telephone and written queries as instructed
  • Attend client meetings as required
  • Actively participate in departmental meetings
  • Build professional relationships with clients where appropriate and approved
  • Communicate technical information, providing the client with a clear understanding and minimising follow up queries
  • Ensure meeting actions are dealt with as appropriate
  • Scoping out work, setting and monitoring budgets and timescales
  • Perform all work to professional standards and within client and statutory deadlines
  • Attain a personal billable hours target
  • Maintain an accurate record of working time

Experience and Education Requirements

Essential:

  • A detailed knowledge of UK Pensions Legislation, specifically Defined Benefit Pension Schemes
  • At least 5 years’ experience of working in an Actuarial team, producing calculations
  • Familiarity with relevant Codes of Practice and guidance published by The Pension Regulator
  • Detailed knowledge of appropriate actuarial professional and technical standards
  • Significant progress with Actuarial exams
  • Good understanding of the actuarial and funding challenges and risks facing small DB pension schemes
  • Knowledge of the detailed calculations underpinning GMP equalisation approaches
  • Knowledge of actuarial valuations including CARE and DC/GMP underpin

Desirable:

  • Experience of presenting on Actuarial topics at client meetings/conferences
  • Ability to demonstrate experience of bespoke actuarial modeling and project work
  • Experience of research/analysis of UK pensions market
  • Knowledge and practical experience of using the Revelation, Lantern and PFaroe actuarial systems
